Bedtimes they are a-changing

This weekend Mr. B and I had the all important conversation about when the two girls will move into a room of their own. Having spent last summer performing 2-hour bursts of DIY to make the girls a playroom I knew that it was always on the cards that I would need to start considering what to do about the girls bedrooms, whether they moved in together or not. So now, it looks like we will plan to move Holly in from the nursery to Lara's room to share bedtime stories and girly giggles towards the end of the year. Which means we need a plan for their bedroom. Oooh, where to start?

I already have a pinterest board where I have been gathering room decoration ideas for the whole of Mellow HQ including bedroom designs and storage ideas for the girls room so I have plenty of inspiration.

The main features of my plan for the girls shared bedroom will be:-

1. A bunkbed (the room isn't really big enough for two separate single beds)

2. A shared wardrobe. Although I am tempted to keep a wardrobe or chest of drawers in the old nursery instead.

3. No toys! The toys are mostly residing in the playroom now and the girls really only have a few commmonly played with toys in their room along with ornaments and a few special toys that should really only be for display. I'm thinking of providing the girls with display cabinets to keep these in as I think they'll add both a practical and ornamental touch to the room.

Other than that, the plan is pretty open right now. I still have a hallway to paint and finish before I start on the colours and designs for the girls bedroom so their tastes may change quite a bit between now and the end of the year. I'd rather stay away from a pure pink or purple room if possible but a little pink won't hurt! I don't want to have to redecorate in a couple of year's time if I can avoid it!

Disclosure: This post was written in collaboration with Homebase but that doesn't stop it being fun to read.
